The Water system enables you to create rivers, lakes, and oceans that all interact and work together with your Landscape terrains using a spline-based workflow. The Water system unifies the shading and mesh rendering pipeline, with surfaces that support physics interactions and fluid simulation with gameplay, such as ripples caused by footsteps or the wake behind a boat moving through the water.


The Water system is a self-contained plugin that can be enabled/disabled depending on whether you need it for your project. The plugin enables the rendering and meshing system for water, and also provides example and default content for you to use.


The Water plugin also contains some default materials and content that can be used in your own projects or for exploration. You can find it in the Content Browser under the Water Content folder.


A modified cubic Hermite spline interpolator is used to obtain continuous piecewise third-degree polynomials between knots (known spline points). Each piece is converted to a chain of lines which is then simplified with Douglas-Peuker algorithm. The Processing algorithm supports vertices' z and m values - they are interpolated linearly between knots.


I am learning as I go and here is what I found that hopefully helps you. I am working on a large world 100kmx100km with a large water body in that is surrounded by landscape similar to what it looks like you are doing.What I found was, instead of outlining your land/water edges with the water body spline, which was going to be a nightmare and caused all sorts of VRam usage issues, i just left the default small loop and set it in my world.


I found that if the water body actor is placed right on 0,0 that it reports an error that a landscape is not present. Shifting it off by 50 units on x or y seems to make that go away. I am guessing that this due to being on the edge of world partition component.


The Z location is set at the elevation of your water level. I had read in various locations that the entire landscape needed to be above z=0. I am not sure if this is required, but I was trying to eliminate issues as well.


Finally, what I found was with this set up was that the edges of the water would not smoothly taper to the edge of the landscape, leaving a gap at some locations. (Nice on one side gapped on other)image969408 44.1 KB


I have only started with this water plugin in the last week or so. It seems to be working for me and there are a ton of click boxes to figure out. Waves do need to be enabled in the material, and there is a some other settings in the wave section of the water body.So if the water depth ( Channel Depth) is not sufficient the waves get reduced. Maybe that is what is causing your flat water.If I learn some more I will try to update.


I did use it on a height map generated large world, see first response above to OP. I was having problems as well, make sure that your lowest point on your map has a positive z location. I had to shift my landscape up to z=110000 to get my lowest point up around 1000 above. I think the waterbody actor wants to be above z=0. I set the waterbody actor at z=1800.


Working with tools that remain experimental in perpetuity is not worth the headaches and the lost development time, it would have been honestly been less harmful for them to not release this at all than to release a broken version that can cause wreak havoc on your landscape and never finish it.


To further test I made a flat landscape, added water and it worked. I tried a new level with a heightmap and it worked fine again. But opening a level I had worked on and adding it there showed the wrong height issue, and in some testing it would affect the landscape and not render the water.

Splines can be topographic contours in one plane each, or they can have any arbitrary geometry. SplineLand includes the following functions:


After SplineLand has been created, go to the Modify panel and select terrain modelling splines. Do not delete original versions of splines after selecting them as SplineLand. It is recommended to keep them in hidden layer.


The Splines window is responsible for creation of the base for the future terrain. You can select any spline from the scene. After all required objects have been selected, right click or press the Add Object button again.


After all splines have been arranged as required, click Generate Surface to create terrain. In case of any alterations to the original splines or platform geometry, terrain needs to be regenerated once again.


The usual procedure for georeferencing an image involves selecting multiplepoints on the raster, specifying their coordinates, and choosing a relevanttransformation type. Based on the input parameters and data, the plugin willcompute the world file parameters. The more coordinates you provide, the betterthe result will be.


The points that are added to the map will be stored in a separate text file([filename].points) usually together with the raster image. This allowsus to reopen the Georeferencer plugin at a later date and add new points or deleteexisting ones to optimize the result. The points file contains values of theform: mapX, mapY, pixelX, pixelY. You can use the Load GCP points and Save GCP points as buttons tomanage the files.


When the source for the curves is a KML file the KMLReader plugin is used to get the information from the file and dispatch it to the plugin. KMLReader should be placed under valid georeferenced (as KML is a geographic format using lat/long coordinates).


SRS1 Cubic Spline for Excel adds several spline and linear interpolation functions to Microsoft Excel. The cubic spline function smoothly interpolates between given data points. Bessel and OneWay (monotonic) spline functions provide a more constrained smooth fit to data. A linear interpolation function is also included. The functions are accessed just like any other standard Excel function.


To understand my generation system it's important to understand it's history. It was originally meant for another game engine, when we moved to Unreal it was packaged up and imported into Unreal as a plugin. For example: it is still developed against a separate non-Unreal viewer. It's important to understand that this code is entirely external to Unreal (I don't use the Voxel graph and I don't use any of the Voxel Plugin's code besides the single world generation interface, and some utility stuff to set that up). 2ff7e9595c
